Am I able to get a job in another state?

IFSAC seals are seals issued by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) to certify that a firefighter has completed a training program that meets the national standard. These seals are not mandatory for certification in Texas, but they can be used as proof of training if you move to another state or if you work for an organization that requires IFSAC seals in various disciplines, particularly those organizations contracting to provide services at federal facilities.

I’ve gotten in trouble with the law before. Can I still become a firefighter?

It depends. TCFP has an application process (Form TCFP-012) for early review that requires fingerprint-based background check before starting your basic firefighting training course to see if you are eligible for certification. The review is for certification only and does not impact your enrollment into our program.

Is the basic structural firefighting program physically demanding?

Firefighting entails a high level of physical exertion. As a firefighter trainee, you will be required to engage in a range of physical tasks such as lifting equipment, pulling hose, climbing stairs while wearing full firefighting gear, as well as performing sit-ups, pushups, and other firefighting-related activities. Many fire departments mandate that candidates pass a physical test as a prerequisite for employment. Maintaining good physical fitness and overall health is crucial for success in this profession.
